It was with sadness that we learned of the passing of our cousin, Stan Bowman, of Carbonear, at the Western Labrador Health Centre, on June 29.
Sincere condolences to his sister, Mary, and son, Randy and family, on your loss.
A hard worker, Stan was a good electrician, following in the footsteps of his father, Ned, and Uncle Bill, both lifelong electricians. While no stranger to electrical circuits, Stan was also handy with a mechanic’s wrench. It was not uncommon to go out into our backyard and find Stan and his good friend, Mike Murphy, hoisting the engine from a 1954 Oldsmobile. Using their intuition, they improvised, with an old block and tackle dangling by chains from 3 longers cut in the woods, and fashioned into a teepee shaped structure.
An outdoorsman, Stan was an avid sports fisherman. He knew every pond, brook and gully on the Line Road, between Carbonear and Heart’s Delight, and hauled big trout out of all of them, on the end of a line tied to a bamboo poll.
A musician, Stan also played button accordion and, in his youth, was a good hockey player, on Carbonear Pond and at the old Jubilee Rink near the Bond Theatre.
