Our memories of Les:
I REMEMBER…. Along with Bill, I helped make the shelves for his gas bar on Cape Horn just past Salmon Cove, and I painted the sign that was to hang over the door. I thought I did a pretty good job on the sign, but I believe Les vetoed it. I never did see it installed.
I REMEMBER…. Les was Mary and my chauffeur at our wedding in 1971, and during the drive through Perry’s Cove and to Bay Roberts, he was free with his advice on what should happen on our wedding night. I paid absolutely no attention to him, but I remember Mary actually asked questions, and Les was only too happy to oblige.
I REMEMBER….. Each year, while Mary & I were home, at the end of summer, Jim would start gathering items – salt cod, tongues, berries, etc. These were for Pauline and Les when they made their annual visit “back home”. The first time I heard about it, I wondered how they would get everything back to Labrador. “No need to worry” Jim said, “you’ll see”. Sure enough, Les had a full size freezer in the back of his truck, and each year it was packed full.
I REMEMBER….Les looked forward each year, including last year, to the annual moose hunt on the Northern Peninsula. Just like brothers Jim and Bill, this trip was about getting at least one moose, but it was most memorable for the fun and camaraderie amongst people he enjoyed being with.
Mary and I have many more memories. Pauline, Lisa, Earl, Mira – I can just imagine all the great memories you must have. Please use them to help you through this sad time. Deepest condolences.

To my Aunt Pauline, Lisa, Earl, and Mira
I am so sorry to hear of my Uncle Les’s passing. A man I believe that everyone loved. He had no enemies. I have so many fond memories of him growing up from when he was building the house on the “neck” in Victoria, the Texaco gas bar and confectionary on Cape Horn above Salmon Cove, in the woods getting logs with the horse and slide. Lake trout fishing trip in Labrador. Most of all the hunting in “Waddaspot” on the west coast. We all so dearly looked forward to that trip every year since our inaugural trip in 2008. (pictures attached) He wasn’t much of hunter but loved the camp and waiting for the hunter’s successful return. The last couple of trips there we all knew he was not well yet he made the trip with his best buddy, more than a son in law, Earl. If I could describe Uncle Les in two words. It would be his “Big Heart” He is in a much better place now reunited with his Paula and his other beloved siblings. Rest easy my buddy.
