Obituary of Bill Leaman

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bill Leaman announce his passing on July 28th, 2023, at the Labrador City Health Center at the age of 64. Bill was born and raised in his beloved hometown of Petty Harbour, NL and moved up to Labrador City at the age of 13 where he completed high-school, played sports, drove sports cars and motorbikes, and made life-long friends. He planted his roots in Labrador West and went on to raise his family here until passing at the age of 64. Leaving to mourn partner Ramona Atkins, sons Brad Leaman & Ryan Leaman, daughter Shanna Leaman (Kirk Tobin), grandchildren Carlee & Paul Tobin, mother Louise Codner (Sam), brothers John Codner (Jeanette), Larry (Pam), Fraser (Kathleen) MacDonald, sisters Sherry Codner (Frank), Jodie Williams, Lisa Codner Hewitt, Nina Spurrell, Joan Goodland, & Bonnie Rowbottom, and a large circle of other relatives and dear friends. Bill was predeceased by Billy Leaman (Skipper) & Emily Leaman. Bill genuinely enjoyed work and his fierce work-ethic will never be forgotten. Even as a young boy he loved earning his own money whether it was helping the meat man or working with the fisherman on the wharf. He went on to have a long and successful career as a 1st-class power engineer and was proud of all of the professional accomplishments he had over the years at both IOC and Tacora Resources, and with Premium Business Solutions. He was also a very prideful father and grandfather. Always motivating and supporting his children in all of their accomplishments in any and every way that he could, and his two young grandchildren were the absolute joy of his life. He took his job as “Poppy” the most serious of all. Another huge love of his was spending time at the cabin. He had many laughs and fond memories shared at Demille Lake over the last three decades and seeing his vision of “Billyville” come to life in his most recent years was one of his greatest milestones. Family will be having a private visitation. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1st, 2023, at Saint Paul's Anglican Church in Labrador City with Reverend Rowena Payne Officiating. Interment to follow at the Labrador City Interfaith Cemetery. The family would like to thank all staff, doctors, and nurses at the Oncology Department, Labrador West Health Centre and the Health Science Center St. Johns. Bill's family, friends, and co-workers for all their continued support.
