Obituary of Peter Junior Blackmore

Promoted to glory: Peter The Fisherman! All the angels in heaven are singing today as they welcome home Gods faithful servant. Peter Junior Blackmore age 73, joined the heavenly hosts before sunrise on August 5, 2023, in Labrador City, NL. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 50 years Inez, and their three daughters, Coralee, Janie (Scott Mercer), Diane (Willie Parsons) & the true loves of his life his grandchildren, Dorian and Mila Parsons. Peter leaves behind his brother Bill Blackmore (Trixie), Evelyn Green (Kevin), Gertie Fifield (Terry), Janet Sturge (Boyd Fudge) and Kevin Blackmore (Diana). He will also be missed by his large circle of friends. Peter was predeceased by his parents Carrie and Gordon Blackmore and his baby brother John Blackmore. Born in Templeman, Newfoundland on May 4, 1950. He spent his childhood playing hockey with his friends, causing trouble, picking and eating berries and of course fishing. He started fishing for trout as a boy in Carter’s Pond with his big brother Bill. Their Uncle Harold had fishing fever and passed it along when he’d visit from the city. The thrill of landing a trout was only surpassed by the excitement of landing a salmon. His return to Labrador City in 1999 ignited his love of Ouananiche fishing. He could tell you precisely what fly to use and where to drop your line if you wanted to catch one. If you ignored his advice he dropped his line in that spot and caught the one you missed. Peter spent his life being a shining example of Gods love and following the Golden Rule. His kindness and generosity were what made him treasured by so many. He was an avid fly fisherman and a master at tying trout and salmon flies. He gave away thousands and ran charity drives selling flies in support of the Janeway Childrens Hospital. 11 years ago Peter created a Facebook page called Salmon, Trout & Waterfowl which now has over 17,000 members in order to share his love of fishing and pride in all that Newfoundland and Labrador has to offer. He was a strong advocate for mental wellness and again used Facebook to create a group to provide encouragement to all who needed it as well as an attentive ear. He touched the lives of people that he never had the pleasure of meeting in person and taught us that you don’t need to be a millionaire or a movie star to make a difference in the lives of those that you encounter. A smile and kind gesture can be enough to brighten someone’s day and maybe even change their life and a pocketful of candies never hurt either. He lived to be a shining example of how God intended us to behave and knew the power of kindness, selflessness and prayer. Fortune and fame were never his motivation for he knew someday he’d walk on streets of gold in a land where he’d never grow old. As his family we’re heartbroken to lose our anchor. Our only comfort is that he has gone home to be with those that he loved that have gone on before. Funeral Service to be announced within the coming days.
