Gaylene’s passing is such a loss to all who had the pleasure to know her. I was blessed to cross paths with her at the Miller Centre for Rehabilitation in St. John’s. She had such a spirit of determination and shared love, support, kindness, and encouragement to my family. As we were both kitty lovers and teachers, we shared many tales and moments of laughter. Rest easy my darling XO

It was with such sadness that I have learned of Gaylene’s passing. As young girls myself and my sister Kerry spent many happy days with our friends Gaylene and Tammy. Living just a few houses away on Elizabeth Avenue meant we were often in and out of each other’s homes. Time led us all on different paths but, as always, those face of our youth remain a special part of our memories. My deepest condolences to Gaylene’s family and special thoughts to Tammy and Rick. Godspeed and God bless Gaylene.

I’m so heartbroken about this news. I met at Gaylene very early into my university days. We immediately hit it off. I spent so much time with her and Jamie at Burton’s Apartments. What wonderful wonderful times. just realizing today that she was eight years older than me, kind of made no sense cause it always felt like we were kindred spirits. Although she was a mother to us circle at the time more than that, though she was the center of so much love and laughter, and that devilish spirit you couldn’t help but feel so good around her. I watched her as she worked really hard to study to get her degree and be a fantastic mom to the greatest little girl in the world Jamie . she was the kind of person that you meet and never forget in your whole life and you love for your whole life. There was kind of a big group of us then we all hang out at her place sometimes and I have to say they were some of the most amazing joyful, comforting times of my life. I wish I’d known she was in town because I would’ve loved to have seen her. Couple years ago we got together for lunch and it was as zero time and passed even though it was probably 25 years. She called me Zook And we laughed and reminisced it was amazing time. I just went to my husband and told him that my friend Gaylene passed away and my heart was broken. He asked me to remind him of who Gaylene was again and I’m glad he did because it made me laugh. The best reference I had for her was a story of something that she used to say, that’s not suitable for the public domain, but so typically Gaylene and funny. I called my mom to tell her the news because they had known Gaylene as long as I’ve known Gaylene and she remembers many good times with her coming to visit them. She was the absolute best of the best. Gaylene, how much did I love you a’tall?!? !!! Jamie, we always knew that you were the absolute best thing that ever happened to her. She loved you so much and she was so proud, my broken heart is with you now.

How can we say ?
To Jaimie and family.
Gaylene was so very fortunate to have you Jaimie as her beautiful daughter and her private nurse. You were the best thing that happened in her life, and if you ever need to chat, know that I am here. Sincere condolences to you, Trevor and Adam.
Also sending condolences to Tammy and Rick and their families. Gaylene loved you all.
Here in Conception Bay, we will miss Gaylene’s trip to see the “Poole” side of the family. She has had many obstacles face her this year and she always took a positive approach to address them. Unfortunately, she was called home too early. As a cousin, I am left with a loss Gaylene, but cherished memories to hold dear, from outings at restaurants, to drives to Conception Harbour and Colliers. We will miss you. Rest peacefully now dear cousin, until we meet again.

Yesterday we said see you later to the most amazing person. When a person is interwoven into your life from the time you were born it has a profound impact on your life. Gaylene, she held me when I was born, she babysat me, she always had a hug for me, she placed Jaime Pittman Barkerin my arms when she was born, I then had the privilege of babysitting for her. I wore her maid of honours dress from Tammy’s wedding to my graduation. She took any phone call no matter what time I called to help me through any problem I had. She always called me little sis or PM. I was given Gaylene’s middle name Marie. This is a small amount of how Gaylene was woven into my life. To say I’ll miss you is an understatement…. Love you sis. Fly high and I know you will always be there watching over me
