Obituary of Gaylene Marie Pittman
June 20th, 1959 - April 20th, 2024
It is with great sadness the family of Gaylene Marie Pittman announce her passing on April 20th, 2024. Gaylene passed peacefully away at the age of 64, with family at her bedside, at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, NL.
Gaylene was the first born of three to Margaret and Richard Pittman, born on June 20th, 1959. She was raised in Labrador City, NL and from there went on to obtain her education degree from Memorial University. She returned home to teach, as her heart was and always will be in Labrador. Gaylene had an amazing passion for teaching and genuine care for each and every one of her students. She helped so many children discover their strengths, overcome their challenges, and have a safe space to grow (academically, emotionally and socially). Her influence truly shaped the future, one student at a time.
Left to mourn with broken hearts but fond and loving memories are her daughter Jaime Barker (Trevor), grandson Adam Barker, sister Tammy Turpin, brother Rick Pittman (Nerissa), nephews Mike, Ryan, Paul, Evan, Caleb, Aaron, Jonah, and her eight fur babies. Gaylene was pre-deceased by her parents Margaret and Richard Pittman and her brother-in-law Donnette Turpin. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to a large group of family and friends, and will be missed by all those who knew her.
Special thanks to Paula, Mark & Shirley Shave who helped love and care for her in her final hours. Also to the amazing staff of the CCU, 5SouthA, and Heart Failure Clinic at the Health Science Center…your kindness, compassion, professionalism & skill will be remembered forever.
Cremation has taken place and interment of ashes to take place at a later date. Donations in her memory to Faith’s Haven Animal Shelter, Heart & Stroke Foundation & Diabetes Canada are gratefully accepted.
